Rapper/songwriter/record producer Drake postponed the remainder of his North American "Summer Sixteen" tour because of an ankle injury.

A spokesperson for the "Hotline Bling" singer explained that Drake's insistence on performing despite having a sprained ankle only exacerbated his condition.

"Drake suffered a severe ankle injury during the tour which he did his best to power through," the spokesperson said in a statement. "By doing this, he made his injury worse," the statement continued.

"Under doctors orders and to ensure Drake only ever gives fans the performances they deserve, he will be postponing the remaining 3 dates of his 'Summer Sixteen' tour to allow him time to recuperate his ankle injury," the statement read.

The announcement of the cancelation of the rest of Drake's North American tour follows news from last week that the rapper was canceling shows in Toronto (Oct. 9), Philadelphia (Oct. 13), and Newark, New Jersey (Oct. 16).

Two shows at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn (Oct. 11 and 12) and another at the Prudential Center in Newark (Oct. 15) have also been added to the list of canceled tour dates.

Over the weekend, Drake posted an announcement on his October's Very Own blog, explaining that he was forced to cancel the shows because he has to give his injury time to heal.

"I am crushed to even be typing this announcement because I feel like I am letting my fans in these cities down," he wrote. "I only want to give you the best show you deserve," he added.

According to Entertainment Weekly, those with tickets to the canceled shows will receive refunds. There have been no announcements regarding the rescheduling of the canceled concerts.

Drake has performed more than 50 shows during his "Summer Sixteen" tour.

Prior to prematurely ending "Summer Sixteen," Drake announced some details about his upcoming European tour dates. The hip-hop superstar will kick off the U.K. leg of the "The Boy Meets World" tour in Glasgow on Jan. 26 before putting on five other shows around the U.K.

Afterwards, he will head out on tour across the Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. His last stop is Cologne, Germany on March 16.

Priority tickets for "The Boy Meets World" are now being sold.
