'Doctor Strange' release date and news: Avengers featured in new TV spot
Marvel Studios fans have always asked, "Where are the Avengers?" whenever something catastrophic happens in a Marvel movie but "Doctor Strange" explains why the team has been absent for such monumental events. A new promo spot showcases three heroes from the Avengers and new footage from the "Doctor Strange" movie.
Though their appearances are short, the clip contains footage of Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) from previous movies. The clip also has Wong (Benedict Wong) explain why the Ancient One's (Tilda Swinton) group of mystic warriors has been absent when all hell broke loose in the other Marvel movies.
Apparently, the Avengers are only considered to protect the world against physical threats; the Ancient One and her companions are there to safeguard the world against the more mystical ones.
The clip also has Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) correcting the Ancient One for calling him "Mister" Strange — he prefers to be called "Doctor." He does the same thing to Mads Mikkelsen's villain Kaecilius in another TV spot.
There's no doubt that this is Strange's display of arrogance and it's likely that he'll be saying this to a lot of other characters in the movie.
Much like Tony Stark's character, Stephen Strange looks like he will be one arrogant man who gets into a life-changing accident that forces him to take up the responsibility of saving the world. His introduction could also be Marvel's way of finding a substitute for RDJ as he is set to appear in fewer Marvel movies in the future.
Will Benedict Cumberbatch provide to the same charisma that Robert Downey Jr. brought to the Marvel Universe? Will he bring in the same audience? Only time will tell.
Marvel Studios' "Doctor Strange" is set for a release on Nov. 4.
