"Doctor Strange" has its fair share of supporting characters that managed to stand out, but the introduction of Dormammu may have opened the door for another popular character to appear in the sequel.

Comic book fans initially thought Dormammu's niece, Clea, was going to be in "Doctor Strange." When it was revealed that Rachel McAdams was portraying Christine Palmer, many were left disappointed. The character might not have appeared in the first film, but screenwriter Jon Spaihts recently told CBR.com that he wanted to introduce Clea in "Doctor Strange 2."

"She's a tricky character to interpret because her uncle is a kind of fire-headed omnipotent god and she's kind of a hot babe who studies magic. That's a tricky relationship to bring out of a comic book and on to a movie screen. But she's a really compelling character as a foil, a love interest, a colleague of Doctor Strange's, and she always carries with her that width of mystery as to whether she is human, and how human, and what that means for his relationship to her," he stated.

Spaihts also talked about the villain Nightmare and how he would fit in the sequel. "Doctor Strange" director/co-writer Scott Derrickson had mentioned before that he wanted to introduce Nightmare as a potential villain for the sequel. He also revealed that he wanted him to appear in the first film, but there just wasn't enough room to explore the character.

Spaihts may have a lot of things planned for the sequel. However, it should be noted that a "Doctor Strange" sequel hasn't been announced yet, and it isn't known yet if Spaihts would return to write the script.

Clea and Nightmare will be welcome additions to the film if Marvel Studios opt to develop a sequel for "Doctor Strange." Chiwetel Ejiofor's Karl Mordo is also still at large, so the filmmakers should have a lot of options.
