'Diablo 3' Necromancer news: D3 Necromancers are their own unique class; Q&A reveals more details about upcoming DLC
The Necromancer class is coming to "Diablo 3" this year, and lead special effects artist Julian Love and senior game designer Travis Day were on hand last Thursday, Jan. 26, to answer some of the burning questions fans have about the upcoming downloadable content (DLC).
The Question and Answer (Q&A) session, which was streamed on the game's official YouTube channel, ran for 47 minutes and addressed questions gathered from various social media sources about the Necromancer. The video, however, did not provide information on the pricing and release date of the said DLC since no concrete decisions regarding these matters have been made yet.
However, Love and Day generously answered other questions and concerns about the upcoming class, which was based on the earlier Necromancer that appeared in "Diablo 2" but will not in any way be connected to it. The D3 Necromancer will be different from the Witch Doctor, which was also based from the D2 Necromancer.
The D3 Necromancer does not come with poison or Iron Maiden, but it can wield two-handed scythes and anything else that is not class specific. Melee Necromancers are also a possibility, providing the class with lots of close-combat skills. The class can also be played with either pets or the main character doing the damage, depending on the player's preference. Also, corpses will rightfully be using corpse-related skills.
Decrepify will be of the D3 Necromancer's arsenal, as seen in the BlizzCon demo, but it will not have any special form like Archon. Pets can either be permanent or temporary, and no user interface (UI) elements will be needed to handle them. The Necromancers are not being built up as a support class. There will be curses and other skills that can help if support should be needed.
Most importantly, players should have updated their games to the "Reaper of Souls" DLC in order to gain access to the Necromancer class when it is finally released sometime this year.
