Detroit Pistons trade rumors 2016: Willing to go over salary cap
Hoping to return to the elite of the Eastern Conference, the Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores is willing to do what it takes to help the team make it to the next level.
The Pistons owner told the Detroit Free Press that he is willing to spend even more if it means the development of the current roster he has and even getting new names that will help the Pistons relive their former glory.
The Pistons have struggled mightily in the previous season, failing to make a mark in the Eastern Conference and missing the playoffs year after year.
They do have a strong core that consists of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope and Andre Drummond, but the team is still far from being the contenders they once were.
Gores also claimed that paying the luxury tax will not be an issue, as long as it brings positive results and wins in the franchise.
Paying the luxury tax does not always work for a franchise, as shown by Brooklyn Nets who have a high luxury tax but still do not have the results to show.
However, the Pistons are known for doing great business, and it is hoped that if the franchise does need to go over the salary cap, it will be for a good purpose.
Caldwell-Pope is still working a deal with the Pistons, and if he wants more money than what is on the table, then it is ensuring that the Pistons are going to go over the cap.
If they are now over the cap, then the franchise might also try and get some more players that could help them get the hump. Hopefully some older veterans with experience that could help the team bounce from their current slump and make it to the playoffs.
The summer is still long, and there is certainly a lot of movement that will still happen, but the Pistons are clearly open to trying anything out in order to get better.
