'Destiny 2' release date, news & update: Upcoming title to be a brand new game
The second installment of Bungie's "Destiny 2" will be less of a sequel. Reports say that the following title will be more of a new game. More importantly, gamers will now be able to enjoy the game on desktop computers.
Since Bungie has already released the latest downloadable content (DLC) for the first title, the video game developers will now be focusing their efforts on the second installment of the franchise. Shortly after the release of "Destiny: Rise of Iron," rumors about the succeeding movie started to circulate.
As previously reported, the director of "The Taken King" Luke Smith will be spearheading the development for the upcoming "Destiny" title. Joining him is executive producer Mark Noseworthy. The pair will be leading fans into a whole new setting. Screenshots for the second video game revealed new weapons and armor.
According to reports, the next title will be leaving behind old planets and quests. In the creation of this new game, Activision sought help from one of its studios, Vicarious Visions. Gamers should expect new characters and new storylines, since the developers reportedly left out the characters from the preceding game.
"D2 is a completely different game," a source told Kotaku. "The Taken King was a reboot for Destiny 1 to fix small things. This is the overhaul to fix big things," Kotaku reported.
The informant also told the news outlet that the developers will be adding more people, towns, outposts and quests. The activities will even be more interesting than the patrol missions in the first game.
"Destiny 2" is expected to launch sometime in 2017. The video game will be available on PC, the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4.
Bungie has yet to comment on the recent reports. Fans should treat the reports as speculation until proven otherwise.
Watch out for more updates on "Destiny 2."
