'Destiny 2' release date, news: Ectra expansion packs, narrative-rich small updates for sequel?
It looks like Bungie will be doubling down on downloadable content (DLC) packs for "Destiny 2," at least according to the latest information that emerged about the game.
The developer appears to be putting together a narrative department including two narrative directors for major releases and small updates, respectively.
The latter, dubbed the live narrative director, will be tasked with "storytelling efforts for regular, small-scale Destiny releases throughout the calendar year."
This had NeoGAF user Nirolak, who shared the listings on the website, that "Destiny 2" could have DLC packs in between expansions. If not, the tipster said Bungie is overhauling its approach on its free updates.
"The free updates they do throughout the year (supported by microtransactions, and rumored to be more frequent and substantial by [game insider] Shinobi) will have notably more narrative aspects than before," Nirolak wrote as she surmised what the hiring of narrative directors mean for "Destiny 2."
"These positions include stuff like cutscene teams and more, so this is presumably a more expansive narrative content than what they have in the small updates now," the tipster continued.
As for the hiring of a narrative director for major releases, it is surmised that this is Bungie's effort to rectify in "Destiny 2" the issues fans had with the lack of a story in the first installment.
The work of the individual also appears to include putting together a narrative for expansion packs for the game. It strikes as odd to some that it is just now that a narrative director is being hired.
This is simply because it has been months since the development of "Destiny 2" has begun. However, it looks like the narrative director will have a hand on the major DLCs to be released in the sequel other than the game itself.
"Destiny 2" will be released later this year. A PC version is rumored to come out, too.
