'Descendants of the Sun' season 2 news, updates: Producer reveals plans for 2nd season; Will Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo be part of it?
"Descendants of the Sun" took the world by storm and months after it went off air, fans are clamoring for a second season. If speculations are proven true, then the series might be back on air for a second season soon.
Seo Woo-sik, producer of the hit Korean drama and CEO of Barunson Entertainment, has revealed plans for a second installment for "Descendants of the Sun," but according to him, there has to be an independent organization within KBS for the plan to come to fruition.
As per Soompi, Seo Woo Sik opined that if "DotS" took the same approach as KBS' documentary series "Superfish" did, it could go for an extended period. Apparently, "Superfish" underwent changes in management and people, after which, it turned out quite well.
"Descendants of the Sun" writer Kim Eun-sook has confirmed that she would no longer write for the second season as Song Joong-ki and Song Hye-kyo's version already told the story she wanted to tell – military romance. Her declaration was short of saying that season 2 would need an entirely different story, one that wouldn't need the former cast members anymore.
According to All K-Pop, it runs contrary to what Jin Goo, who played Seo Dae-young, said in a recent interview where he said should there be a "Descendants of the Sun" season 2, he would be willing to reprise his role, as it had brought him far too many blessings.
"I also heard about it," he said. "I saw reports on it, and if there is a season 2, then of course I will take part. I will do it again no matter how successful or not it may be since I received a great gift from it. I have to pay back what I received."
Meanwhile, Chatt Sports Net reported that the famed "SongSong" couple might skip "Descendants of the Sun" season 2 altogether. Song Joong-ki, for one, has his hands full with his many commitments and endorsement deals.
KBS is yet to confirm if it would push through with a second season for "Descendants of the Sun." Even so, fans are hoping "SongSong's" schedules would find a way to accommodate the series so they can see their favorite TV couple again.
