A Brazilian actress has bested five other actresses for the yet-to-be revealed lead female role in the 2016 movie "Deadpool."

Morena Baccarin, who starred in "Firely" and "Homeland," has been selected to star opposite Ryan Reynolds, who will play the title role in "Deadpool." Baccarin has a recurring role as Dr. Leslie Thompkins on the TV series "Gotham" and will also appear in Paul Feig's upcoming film "Spy" with comedienne Melissa McCarthy.

She was selected among other contenders, namely Jessica De Gouw ("Arrow") and Sarah Greene ("Vikings"), Crystal Reed ("Teen Wolf"), Rebecca Rittenhouse ("Red Band Society"), and Taylor Schilling ("Orange Is The New Black").

A casting call sheet revealed online describes Baccarin's character to be "attractive and worldly. Smart, tough, beautiful but a little bit broken."

The casting call sheet says, "Nothing has ever been easy for her and she's developed a thick skin and cynical outlook. But she's not a victim—she may not have a great life but she's holding it together and does what she needs to get by. She's got a great sense of humor but it leans heavily towards irony and sarcasm."

Cinema Blend predicts that the description fits Domino, a mercenary who was a product of a government breeding program. Another possibility is Copycat, Wade Wilson/Deadpool's shape-shifting mutant girlfriend before he underwent cancer treatment that scarred him physically and mentally but gave him superpowers.

Baccarin will join the film cast including TJ Miller of "Silicon Valley," Ed Skrein of "Game of Thrones," and Gina Carano. Miller has been reported to play Deadpool's sidekick Weasel. Skrein will play a villain's role while Carano will act the part of the adrenaline-controlling mutant Angel Dust, according to Cinema Blend.

It has been long known that Reynolds will don the Deadpool costume.

Tim Miller will direct the film, working from a script by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Shooting will start next month.

"Deadpool" will hit cinemas on Feb. 12, 2016.
