'Constantine' Premiere Recap, Spoilers: Series Returns As NBC Show
"Constantine" has finally returned as an NBC series. Starring Marr Ryan as John Constantine and directed by Neil Marshall, the show premiered last Oct. 24.
In episode 2, entitled "The Darkness Beneath," "John tries to protect residents of a mining community who are being threatened by a Welsh spirit," according to a synopsis from Zap2it. The episode will be aired on Oct. 31.
In an interview, David S. Goyer told KSite T that "within our first 13 [episodes] you'll see a couple of other characters from the larger DC Universe," emphasizing that they will only include characters with an "organic fit."
As for Corrigan, Goyer said he "was a really natural fit" because the story had something to do with a homicide detective.
"There was something supernatural involved in the homicide, and so we said 'Oh! That makes sense'!" he exclaimed.
Goyer admitted that the characters in the show were hard to pull off. It is worth noting that "Constantine" is based on a comic book entitled "Hellblazer."
Goyer admitted that the production team had to discuss whether the name of the show should follow the name of the book, but ultimately, they ended up with "Constantine."
Daniel Cerone, another executive producer for "Constantine," said, "Hellblazer feels like a genre show, and Constantine is a character show. We want to be a character show first and foremost, so to have a single title character at the forefront... look, if you read Hellblazer, and you hear of a show called Constantine, you know what that is."
Regardless of the name, it looks like both producers and the entire crew is proud of their masterpiece. Goyer thinks that "the show is amazing," and said that it will "get better and better after the pilot."
