Cleveland Cavaliers trade rumors 2016: LeBron James signs new deal
Known as one of the best professional basketball players that are currently in the NBA, LeBron James recently signed a deal to make him the best-paid basketball star at the moment.
The Cleveland Cavaliers and James have agreed to a three-year, $100 million deal and it was confirmed by ESPN through agent Rich Paul.
Details of the deal disclose that James will be getting $31 million in the coming season, making him the highest-paid player in the entire NBA, while the 2017-18 part of the deal will see James get over $33 million, breaking Michael Jordan's contract record of $33 million back in the 1997-98 season.
It is the first time James will get this much after already achieving so much in his professional career.
James, later on, posted a photo on his official Instagram account claiming his commitment with the organization.
He would go on to speak in an interview, saying: "I just want to let y'all know I'm re-signing back with the Cleveland Cavaliers, my hometown team. I can't be more excited than this opportunity once again, man, to defend our crown, defend our title. We all know last year as a magical, inspiring -- all the words you can come up with -- it was an unbelievable season."
It should be noted that the deal will mean James is not going to be a free agent in the next season with many expecting him to be when the money comes and new deals can result in bigger payouts.
However, looking at what he has done throughout the career, there is no need to mention that James deserved this. His career numbers are at 27.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists per game.
He has also been an All-Star in all but his rookie year back in 2003-04.
A three-time NBA champion, James led the Cavaliers in a comeback after falling 3-1 down to the Golden State Warriors in the last NBA Finals.
