'Clash Royale' September 2016 update to include option to mute emotes; collectible emotes in the works?

The 'Clash Royale' community has spoken, and Supercell has finally given in.

Despite announcing two months ago that they were not planning on giving players an option to mute emotes — those short text/emoji messages that players can send each other during a battle — Supercell has just recanted their previous statement in a new notice posted on the official "Clash Royale" site.

The upcoming September patch promises to give players "the ability to mute their opponent during each battle." However, this does not necessarily equate blocking since players will still be able to see hints that their opponent is trying to send messages, except that the muted messages will not be displayed.

Supercell also hinted on their plans to possibly revise emotes in hopes of changing the way that players look at them. Emotes may take on a more collectible feel in the near future, an idea that has prompted Redditor iaggia to wonder if Supercell was referring to purchasable premium emotes that could bypass the mute option.

Other players are also wondering how a muted message would look like, with Redditor coyroyal suggesting that the messages may appear as ellipsis. Meanwhile, user Excellentposts shared on the official Supercell forum that the players who have been spamming the emotes were the real problem, and not the emotes themselves. A five-second cool down between sending emotes would have been preferable to muting. It is not clear yet whether a player will be able to know if his opponent has muted him or not.

Meanwhile, "Clash Royale" is about to make history as the first touch-screen game to be included in this year's Paris Games Week. Registration details for the international qualifying round to the ESWC-organized "Clash Royale" tournament can be found at the ESWC website.

The Paris Games Week happens on Oct. 28–30 and will see 128 international "Clash Royale" champions battling it out on the official ESWC stage.
