'Civilization VI' release date news: Presents Gandhi as the leader of India; showcases his good use of peace
Sid Meier's "Civilization VI" has just released a video showcasing the Indian civilization, and their leader is none other than the great Mahatma Gandhi. The game makes good use of Gandhi's beliefs about peace which makes the Indian civilization a powerhouse of faith and happiness.
Gandhi's special leader ability is called Satyagraha, and it's based on the Indian leader's stand on nonviolence. For each Civ that runs into India that has founded a religion and is not at war, India will get a significant boost in Faith. Satyagraha also punishes Civs that choose to attack Gandhi, and every Civ that attacks will get happiness penalties.
Of course, when peace is not an option, India also has access to its special units. The Varu, or the War Elephant, reduces the combat strength of adjacent enemy units. The "Civ VI" blog also states, "Atop the Varu rests a wooden box where archers and pikemen can attack infantry units relatively safe from harm, while the elephant itself presents multiple dangers to any soldiers within its path."
India's Civ ability is called Dharma, and it allows India to get the follower beliefs of all religions present in their cities apart from the followers of their own religion. It's another commentary on how India has served as a religious crossroads which lead its nation closer to peace.
India's tile improvement is called the Stepwell. It provides both housing and food, but it will also provide bonuses based on where it is built. Building the Stepwell next to a farm will give the player bonus food, and building it next to a holy site will give the Civ bonus faith.
With all those abilities, India proves to be very abundant when it comes to housing and faith, which will surely keep the peace within the population.
Sid Meier's "Civilization VI" is scheduled to be released on Oct. 21.
