Now that Dawson (Monica Raymund) and Casey (Jesse Spencer) are raising a child together, marriage could be on the horizon for the on-again off-again pair.

According to "Chicago Fire" executive producer Michael Brandt, the two are now committed to stay with each other and raise Louie, their foster child. Brandt told TV Line "they're both definitely interested" in making things "official."

"Their relationship seems to have hit every possible bump in the road — and there are definitely a few more coming — but Casey and Dawson are firmly a couple," he said.

One of these bumps was tackled in this week's "Chicago Fire" season 5 premiere, with both Dawson and Casey trying to figure out how to handle raising a child when both of them run inside burning buildings for a living.

In the season opener, Dawson was worried that the foster care system will not allow Louie to be with her and Casey while both of them are "on truck." Fortunately, Chief Boden (Eamonn Walker) asked her to stay on ambo duty after he was informed by higher-ups that Jimmy (Steven R. McQueen) would be reassigned to truck.

As for Casey, the Chicago Fire Department lieutenant expressed his commitment to his new family when he told Susan Weller (Lauren Stamile), his political consultant, that he's not interested in pursuing a political career and would rather focus on his firefighting duties "among other things."

"He's a family man at heart — probably — and he's always wanted kids," Spencer told E! News. "But as firemen, [we] improvise, adapt and overcome, and that's what he has to do in his personal life," he added.

The season 5 premiere also explored Severide's (Taylor Kinney) romantic status with Stella (Miranda Rae Mayo), who was being stalked by her ex.

Brandt also spoke to TV Line about the possibility of Stella and Severide becoming a couple. According to the "Chicago Fire" boss, Severide will always be Severide, which means that the two will likely be dancing around the prospect of an actual relationship for a while.

"[O]ver the years, we've found it's really hard to find [female] characters who have good chemistry with Severide because he is such a removed, kind of cool cat," Brandt said. "But Stella does bring it," he continued.

Meanwhile, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brandt confirmed executive producer Matt Olmstead's revelation that a big firehouse exit is looming.

Brandt said that there will indeed be an exiting character in the first half of the current season, but declined to provide details about the character and the circumstances of the exit.

"Chicago Fire" season 5 airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EDT on NBC.
