Boston Celtics trade news 2016: Gerald Green signed on vet minimum

Looking to provide a spark, the Boston Celtics have signed veteran guard Gerald Green to join the Eastern Conference franchise for the coming season.

The Celtics are trying to add various pieces of the puzzle in order to become a contender in the East, and Green may be seen as a mentor who can create a spark off the bench as well.

Throughout his nine-year career, Green is known as a role player who has given spurts on the floor to energize teammates and put some quick points on the board.

He is a flashy player who is quick off the dribble as he drives to the basket, as well as a reliable threat from beyond the arc.

However, Green has struggled to find consistency which has resulted in him bouncing from one team to another.

Already in his second stint with the Celtics, Green was drafted 18th overall in the 2005 NBA Draft by the Celtics and has since played for a total of eight different teams.

Green also spent two seasons overseas as he played in Russia from 2009 to 2011.

Looking at his stats, it is safe to say that Green will still have a lot to offer at 30 years old as he averages 10 points in his career while shooting 36 percent from beyond the arc.

Last year with the Miami Heat, Green had tough time settling in as he played 69 games and averaged 8.9 points. However, he struggled with shooting as he only converted 32 percent from beyond the arc and finished below 40 percent shooting for the first time since the 2012-13 season.

Green is definitely hoping to revitalize his career with the Celtics and it should be a good deal for the C's as it is reported that he will play on a one-year guaranteed deal.

Celtics Blog reported that Green will get a veteran minimum which is around $1.4 million in the coming year.

It should be interesting to see how things will pan out in Green's return to the Garden.
