'Borderlands 3' release date, updates: Gearbox teases setting in 'Battleborn' DLC easter egg
Gearbox Software said before that fans will learn the first details about "Borderlands 3" in the "Battleborn" downloadable content, and they seem to have kept their word.
In an interview with Eurogamer early this year, Gearbox CEO and president Randy Pitchford said that they actually plan to "put easter eggs for future stuff" in the "Battleborn" expansions.
This is what they did in the "Attikus and the Thrall Rebellion" story Operation DLC for "Battleborn" released early this month, where MentalMars spotted a telling spot on the map.
The folks over at the site stumbled upon an area that is visible in the expansion but is not accessible by players. It is not noticeable at first glance and also almost illegible, but looking at it closely, one would make out a word "Borderlands" fans will be familiar with.
A street gated in the DLC has graffiti on it, which features a vault icon, the logo for "Borderlands." If one were to turn it upside down and read it as the letter "A," it spells out Promethea.
Promethea is of course a planet in the "Borderlands" universe where the Atlas Corporation found alien technology, which, after reverse engineering it, made for a vital ingredient that paved the way for the creation of improved starships and weapons.
It was taken to mean that the easter egg points out the main location of "Borderlands 3." If this will be the case, fans will be in for a more challenging adventure.
Promethea is believed to be planet, which is not the most ideal for anyone to stay in as it presents a harsh living condition. It is often described to be in worse shape than Pandora.
The "Battleborn" easter egg implies that "Borderlands 3" will give fans a better look at Promethea and will also get to experience its unkind conditions.
This also means that the Atlas Corporation could make a return in "Borderlands 3" and the focus might be on the weapons manufacturer.
Of course, there are only so many things to take away from the easter egg. Either way, it appears that fans will slowly learn more about "Borderlands 3" as "Battleborn" continues to grow.
