'Bones' season 11 finale spoilers: Season ender a cliffhanger? Big twist expected, will a main character die?

A big twist is expected to happen in the season 11 finale of "Bones." However, could this twist lead to one of the main characters dying?

Jonathan Collier, executive producer of "Bones," recently sat down for an interview with Entertainment Weekly, where he teased about season 11's finale episode, which is titled "The Nightmare within the Nightmare." He said, "It will be a cliffhanger."

"A key character is threatened," he told EW. "We're promising everyone an incredibly surprising twist that will really reward our long-term fans."

The 22nd episode of the current season will see the return of the infamous Puppeteer serial killer who was introduced in episode 13. The episode would also deal with some personal stuff, particularly with Brennan (Emily Deschanel) who is struggling with guilt following her retirement the previous year.

Apparently, she feels that if she did not retire, she would have been able to stop the Puppeteer from wreaking further havoc. Carter Matt shared this synopsis:

"The team dives back into investigating a serial killer from the past, attempting to find "The Puppeteer," who lives with his victims' bodies before disposing of them. Meanwhile, Brennan works through her guilt over her retirement last year, blaming herself for not stopping the serial killer earlier. However, little does she know she might be in some trouble of her own."

It's not clear from the synopsis if the Puppeteer would endanger Brennan's life, but what's certain is that she will find herself in grave danger.

In an earlier interview with EW, showrunner Michael Peterson hinted that the finale would be a literal spookfest along the lines of Alfred Hitchcock's "Spellbound" mixed with a bit of "Psycho."

"We really wanted to spook ... This is somebody who looks at skeletons and can see them as real people, and that's Brennan, but she is the good side of this. But there is a very dark side to what she does," Peterson told the publication.

"Bones" season 11's finale episode, "The Nightmare within the Nightmare," will air on Thursday, July 21, at 8 p.m. on Fox. Meanwhile, check out the teaser video below.
