'Blindspot' season 2 episode 14 spoilers: Rich Dotcom returns for undercover mission; Weller has doubts about being in FBI
Fan favorite recurring character, Rich Dotcom (Ennis Esmer) returns for another undercover case in the next episode of "Blindspot."
While still reeling from the aftereffects of his first encounter with Shepherd (Michelle Hurd) in years, Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) is thrust right back into the grind when a tattoo points his team to the path of a powerful collegiate secret society. Since it's a supposedly secret organization, infiltrating it proves to be difficult, if not completely impossible, without inciting suspicion. They do, however, have one option left: enlist the help of the double-crossing hacker Rich, who also happens to be one of the secret society's alumni.
The trailer for the episode titled "Borrow or Rob" reveals that Weller will be accompanying Rich to an underground gathering that looks normal enough until a group of people in red hooded cloaks appears and starts performing a cultish ritual. Whatever it is that they are doing eventually makes Rich tell Weller to call his family and tell them he loves them. Will the untrustworthy Rich betray Weller and his team, yet again? Or will Weller's earlier revelation that this society is planning a war move Rich to do the right thing for a change, without any hidden agenda this time around?
The promotional images reveal that Patterson (Ashley Johnson) will also be joining the party to work the crowd and hopefully gather significant information. Will they be able to bring this secret society down, or will a potential betrayal by Rich derail their plans at the cost of their lives?
Another thing that could spoil their success is Weller's state of mind after that encounter with Shepherd, wherein the boss terrorist flat out told him that he will have no choice but to eventually join her.
When asked how the previous episode's revelations will affect Weller, executive producer Martin Gero said via Entertainment Weekly, "It freaks him out. It makes him recontextualize everything, including whether he was meant to be an FBI agent or not."
Will these thoughts affect Weller's efficiency on the field, or will it only motivate him to be in his best form at all times? What did Shepherd mean about Weller joining her eventually? Gero said the answer is "so central to how the last four episodes play out," that he cannot divulge any more details about it.
"Blindspot" season 2 episode 14 airs on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
