'Blindspot' season 2 episode 10 spoilers: EP teases a difficult second half for Patterson, Roman; Shepherd's endgame to be revealed?

What will Patterson's (Ashley Johnson) fate be when "Blindspot" season 2 returns in January? | YouTube/Blindspot

Midseason finales always end with cliffhangers to keep fans at the edge of their seats wanting more. This is exactly what "Blindspot" did in its final scene between Dr. Borden (Ukweli Roach) and Patterson (Ashley Johnson) and a foreboding shot ringing in the air.

This was because the mild-mannered psychologist who served as a seemingly discreet confidante to Kurt's (Sullivan Stapleton) crew on many occasions, was revealed to be the mole secretly passing on FBI information to Sandstorm. Who got shot is a revelation that fans of the show will have to wait for with bated breath until the back half of NBC's crime thriller kicks off in January.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Martin Gero shared that in its first episode back in 2017, "Blindspot" will pick up right where the midseason finale left off. Although he did not confirm that someone would die, he readily gave fans hope that the team's forensic scientist and premiere puzzle solver will survive, but not without a catch.

"It's going to really shake her," Gero said, referring to Patterson's doomed relationship with Borden. He added that since Patterson was the kind of person who avoided grief and sadness, as previously shown when her former partner David died, what she had and lost with Borden will definitely be something she would have to struggle with, if she manages to survive.

The second half of "Blindspot" season 2 will also reveal what Phase 2 really is, the real significance of Jane's (Jaimie Alexander) tattoos, what Shepherd (Michelle Hurd) has in store for Kurt, and most of the other major questions that have been left hanging up to this point.

In another interview with Entertainment Tonight, Gero also teased the difficult journey that Jane's brother Roman (Luke Mitchell) will go through after his sister injected him with the same serum that wiped out her entire memory. His current reputation as a known terrorist will not earn him a welcome in the FBI.

"It's going to be a very, very different experience for him and a really hard one," Gero said.

"Blindspot" season 2 returns with its 10th episode on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 10 p.m. EST on NBC.
