'Biohazard: Vendetta' release date and news: Chris and Leon appear in new trailer

Chris Redfield returns in the CG movie, "Biohazard: Vendetta" | Youtube/KADOKAWAanime

Though it is more popularly known as "Resident Evil" to the Western audience, the "Biohazard" series has been one of the most iconic zombie shooter franchise in video game history. It has been adapted into several Hollywood movies by now. The first full computer graphics (CG) movie is called "Biohazard: Vendetta" and it just got a new trailer.

The trailer could bring back some serious nostalgia for gamers who have been with the series since the first "Biohazard" game came out. The video starts with Leon Kennedy entering a morgue full of dead bodies. Then, it cuts to Chris Redfield and his strike team entering the original mansion from the game, only to be met with hordes of undead zombies which pick off his team members little by little.

The movie is reported to focus on an original story written by "Psycho-Pass" writer Makoto Fukami. The film will be directed by Takanori Tsujimoto who also worked on "Patlabor: The Next Generation." "Ghost In The Shell" fans will like that the movie's music will come from Kenji Kawai (who also worked on "Patlabor").

The movie is also produced by Takashi Shimizu, the creator of "Ju-on"/"The Grudge," so expect a lot of horror elements to transition straight into the "Biohazard" movie.

The movie is said to feature classic "Biohazard" characters. Aside from Chris and Leon, the movie will also have an appearance from Rebecca Chambers. There is no news yet on whether Jill Valentine will be making it to the movie.

Interestingly, Hollywood is pumping out "Resident Evil: The Final Chapter" early next year starring Milla Jovovich. The film is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. The live-action movies were never really critically praised and even the fans are puzzled as to why the series has managed to last for so long.

"Biohazard: Vendetta" is set to release spring 2017 in Japan. No Western release has been planned yet.
