'Avatar 2' release date, plot news & update: How 'Toruk' production could impact film
"Avatar 2" is still more than a couple of years away, but fans can get an idea of what it has in store in "Toruk: The First Flight," a Cirque du Soleil production.
In an interview with Variety, director James Cameron implied that the stadium show that premiered in November will impact the four upcoming "Avatar" movies.
"I love some of the costumes and hairstyles, so we might create a resonance there where you actually see some of the things that you see in 'Toruk' come into the design of the films," he said.
"We've got most of the sequel stuff already designed, but I like this idea of weaving back and forth between the two worlds, the live world and the film world," he continued.
With that said, those who will experience "Toruk: The First Flight," which has upcoming shows (Minneapolis, Winnipeg, and Fresno being its next stops for this month and the next), will get an idea on how "Avatar 2" will look visually.
In terms of the actual plot for "Avatar 2," Cameron teased that it will follow the family life of Jake and Neytiri, played by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, respectively.
"It's more of a family saga about the struggle with the humans," the director explained. "But thematically, 'Toruk' manages to land very very closely to the feeling of where the sequel stories are going," he added.
Meanwhile, Cameron also said that the release date of "Avatar 2," which is currently set for holiday 2018 could still and will change if they needed to.
Regardless, it will be a long wait for fans. Apart from checking out "Toruk: The First Flight," fans can also pay a visit Avatar: Discover Pandora, a traveling exhibition inspired by the franchise.
It is located in Taipei, Taiwan and recreates the world of Na'vi, allowing visitors to experience the science and technology as well as the creatures of the massive world.
