James Wan's "Aquaman" has taken the premiere slot of James Cameron's sequel to "Avatar," which has been delayed without a definite date for release announced yet. It might take a while before a firm release date for "Avatar 2" will be confirmed, as the director is focusing on the third, fourth, and fifth sequels of the "Avatar" film at the same time.

Jason Momoa's debut as Aquaman was pushed a bit later in 2018, taking the Dec. 21 slot of Cameron's "Avatar 2," The Hollywood Reporter confirmed. After the announcement was made, Cameron confirmed that "Avatar 2" will not premiere in 2018.

However, the director explained that fans of the film should understand how the sequels of "Avatar" are being woven, which explains why the second installment is taking long to premiere.

"We're making 'Avatar'2, 3, 4 and 5. It's an epic undertaking. ... So I know where I'm going to be for the next eight years of my life. It's not an unreasonable time frame if you think about it. It took us four-and-a-half years to make one movie and now we're making four," Cameron explained to The Toronto Star.

Cameron has no plans of revealing any part of the sequels' plot yet, but he assured fans that the right time will come for him to reveal what they can expect from "Avatar 2" and beyond.

Although one theme that fans of the film can base their theories on is how humans "use up the resources of our world and try to take it over," a theme that Cameron said is imminent in the "Avatar" films.

Meanwhile, Sigourney Weaver — who played Dr. Grace in "Avatar" — shared that she's read three out of four scripts of Cameron's sequels for the film. "They're even more extraordinary than the first one," Weaver exclaimed.

The premiere date for "Avatar 2" has not been confirmed yet.
