ASUS Chromebook C302CA release date, specs news: Newegg listing pulled; new laptop to be introduced at CES 2017
A new ASUS Chromebook was recently spotted online despite the Taiwanese computer and electronics company not making any official announcement. The listing appeared on online retailer Newegg's website but was pulled a few hours later. Nevertheless, it is expected that the new laptop will be released very soon.
The ASUS Chromebook C302CA has been rumored for quite some time now. Back in June, the laptop with the codename Cave was said to be arriving by November. Then, in October, a listing for the device was spotted at the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). However, its touted release date came and went without an appearance from the Chromebook. With the Newegg listing, consumers thought that they would finally get the chance to purchase the device before the end of 2016.
According to the listing, the ASUS Chromebook C302CA features a 12.5-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1,920 x 1080 pixels and a brightness of 300 nits. In terms of dimensions, it is 11.97 x 8.27 x 0.54 inches and weighs 2.65 pounds. When the laptop is folded around the back, the Chromebook can also be transformed into a tablet.
The new laptop is powered by an Intel Core m3 processor with 4 GB of random access memory (RAM) and 64 GB of built-in storage. Memory can be expanded via a micro SD card. Other notable specifications include two USB Type-C ports, a 39 Whr battery and a backlit keyboard for productivity even in low light environments. Given its name, the laptop will also run the Chrome operating system which has support for Android apps.
Based on the listing, ASUS' new Chromebook will be priced at $499.
Chrome Unboxed managed to order the laptop from Newegg before the listing was pulled. However, the outlet revealed that all orders have been cancelled. Nevertheless, it was made known that the device is scheduled to be announced at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas on Jan. 5, 2017.
