'Arrow' season 5 spoilers, news: Upcoming season's criminal element is the mob? Oliver to fight mob villains?
One of Oliver Quinn's toughest opponents may be dead, but he still needs to set Star City in order both as a mayor and as a hooded vigilante. At least, that's what executive producer Wendy Mericle seemed to hint regarding "Arrow" season 5.
Speaking to the press during the San Diego Comic-Con, Mericle dished on what fans should expect from the upcoming season of Stephen Amell's series.
Comic Book Resources reported that as per Mericle, Star City would not be "in a great shape" when "Arrow" returns for its fifth run. Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough) may be dead, but without his team members, Oliver (Amell) would have a hard time finding "easy answers" in the next season.
Seeing as he is now Star City's mayor, Oliver would be dealing not with superpowered villains but with the mob. Those who've watched "Arrow" from the start would recall that it is this exact arc that made the series famous – the hooded vigilante fighting the city's mob bosses and bad guys. Thus, fans could expect that "Arrow" season 5 would see Oliver fighting the mob not only as a mayor but also as a vigilante.
Apparently, there would also be new vigilantes joining Oliver's team. These would be made up of people who were inspired by the work of Ollie and Team Arrow. Among these new vigilantes to join the team are The Vigilante (Josh Segarra), Artemis (Madison McLaughlin), and Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez).
Mericle also said Oliver's Bratva tattoo would finally be explained in the upcoming season – how he got it, why he has it, as well as his ties to the Russian mafia.
As regards "Olicity," the showrunner said Oliver and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) are clueless as to where their relationship is headed. Nevertheless, in a recent report, it was Rickards herself who confirmed that her character would find a new love this season. So it looks like Felicity would move on from her doomed wedding with Oliver. As for Oliver moving on, that's something fans would have to look forward to when "Arrow" starts airing.
"Arrow" season 5 premieres Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. Meanwhile, check out season 5's official trailer below.
