'Arrow' season 5 spoilers: Laurel's emergence and Felicity's dark path detailed
The midseason finale of "Arrow" season 5 definitely had many fans at the edge of their seats as the team becomes closer to learning the identity of Prometheus and a certain character returns.
Laurel (Katie Cassidy) was seen in the Arrow cave, shocking Oliver (Stephen Amell) to his core. It is unclear how someone he watched die and be buried underground is standing in front of him, as real and alive as he wanted her to be.
This "Arrow" season 5 moment had many surprised and intrigued as to who is this person they were looking at. According to speculations, it is unlikely that she is the Laurel that the Team Arrow has been working with.
Rumor has it that the Laurel from the "Arrow" season 5 midseason finale is from another Earth, another ramification of what has been happening in "The Flash."
It is believed that she is the Black Canary, a villain that fans already saw on "The Flash" season 2. She was from Earth-2. With the idea of multiverses and alternate timelines, this is made possible.
There are speculations that Laurel being alive in "Arrow" season 5 is one of the changes brought about by Barry's Flashpoint timeline.
Apart from the explanation behind Laurel's emergence, another thing that fans can expect is Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards), whose life will change forever following the death of Billy Malone (Tyler Ritter).
She will be on a dark path when "Arrow" season 5 returns. She will not put the blame on Oliver, but will set her sights on Prometheus instead.
"This season we have said we're going to take her to a darker place, and you're seeing the genesis of the reason why, right here," showrunner Wendy Mericle told TVLine.
Felicity "is going to meet some people who are both a bit tied to her past but also very much tied to this new future she's contemplating and that's going to draw her away from the team and lead her to do some things that are pretty morally questionable," she went on to say.
"Arrow" season 5 returns on Wednesday, Jan. 25, on The CW.
