'Arrow' season 5 news: Stephen Amell reveals Oliver's biggest regret, addresses fans' issues with Olicity

"Arrow" star Stephen Amell was at last week's Heroes and Villains Fan Fest in Atlanta, Georgia, where he spoke to fans about Oliver Queen/Green Arrow's biggest regret and responded to their gripes about the end of the character's relationship with Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards).

Despite the dissolution of his romance with former girlfriend Felicity, the actor said that Oliver's biggest regret had nothing to do with the brilliant IT technician, given that he literally had members of his family murdered in front of him.

As "Arrow" fans recall, Oliver has a rough history, leading him to take on the persona of Green Arrow, the hooded vigilante. While the previous season showed glimpses of a light-hearted Oliver, his turn at happiness was short-lived. Between the previous season and the current "Arrow" season 5, Oliver has been through the death of a close friend, the breakdown of his former team, and the end of his romance with Felicity. This doesn't even include all the other things he had to deal with as Green Arrow and as Oliver Queen.

Despite all of that, Amell said that Oliver's biggest regret was his inability to save his mom. "For sure, that's tough," the actor said at the convention. "We actually viewed that episode in Walla Walla. We did a random viewing party, and we set it up — 'It'll be really fun! There's like 200 people there!' And the episode ends, and everyone stared at me like I had just tricked them into something," he added.

Fortunately, Oliver will have a chance to be with his mother again. In Wednesday's crossover episode, he will find himself in an alternate timeline in which he never becomes Green Arrow and his parents are still alive.

Meanwhile, during the Heroes and Villains Fan Fest, Amell found himself having to deal with some very passionate fans who did not appreciate that both Oliver and Felicity are now seeing other people.

"You don't always get what you want," the actor told the crowd. "Sitting here, feeling unhappy about the state of their relationship... They're still functioning as a team; they're still serving a greater good," he continued.

According to Amell, Oliver and Felicity's relationship "as it pertains to saving the city" had always been more important than their relationship. The actor added that what is important is that the two are able to work as a team and that they are honest with each other whether or not they are romantically involved.
