'Arrow' season 5 episode 5 spoilers: The Human Target comes to Starling City as Church plots to assassinate Mayor Queen
Oliver Queen aka The Green Arrow (Stephen Amell) succeeded in breaking his friend John Diggle (David Ramsey) out of military prison, but in the process lost his most rebellious new recruit, Rene Ramirez aka Wild Dog (Rick Gonzalez).
What steps will Team Arrow take to get him back? Will they be able to save Rene before Tobias Church (Chad L. Coleman) breaks him? How much pain can Wild Dog possibly take before he succumbs to either Church's will or imminent death?
Oliver and Rene have never been in the best of terms, but the main reason why they clash so much is because of how similarly stubborn they are when they set their minds on a particular task. They may not always see eye to eye but Wild Dog has already earned his keep as part of the team and the Green Arrow never abandons a comrade.
In the preview for "Arrow" season 5 episode 5 titled "Human Target," it seems that Team Arrow will indeed succeed in taking Wild Dog back but not without consequences. In one scene, a battered Rene seems to be taking some relaxation lessons from Diggle. Has his capture so traumatized him that he now needs to learn some "hippy-dippy meditation" before he can get back out on the battlefield?
Additionally, his torture seems to have led him to reveal the Green Arrow's real identity. And now, there is no stopping Church from targeting Oliver at his day job as mayor of Starling City.
The official press release for the episode states that Oliver will seek the assistance of an old friend, Christopher Chance aka Human Target (Will Traval). This particular DC-based character has already had a couple of previous TV versions in the past. He is a private investigator who provides the special service of assuming the identity of his client so that he may instead serve as a target for anyone who would wish to harm his charge.
Meanwhile, Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards) will be facing a problem of her own when her new boyfriend, police detective Billy Malone (Tyler Ritter) decides to join the mayor's Anti-Crime Unit. Will this take Malone a step closer to discovering his girlfriend's secret crime-fighting identity as Team Arrow's Overwatch?
"Arrow" season 5 episode 5 airs on Wednesday, Nov. 2, at 8 p.m. EDT on The CW.
