Apple AirPods news, updates: software reset fixes battery issue for some users, but not all
Getting tired of that battery drain on your Apple AirPods? Well, join the club. The issue can be frustrating, but Mac Rumors forum member Casimono was kind enough to share some tips on how to fix the problem by doing a software reset on the AirPods.
To reset the AirPods, users will have to "press and hold the setup button for at least 15 seconds," until the status light starts flashing amber and then flash white. Afterward, users will have to reconnect the AirPods to their devices.
While resetting the AirPods can fix it for some, Mac Rumors has reported that other users are still experiencing this problem.
"Unfortunately, the fix isn't universal, and a large portion of affected users still see large percentage drops in the Charging Case on an hourly and daily basis, even after resetting," Mitchel Broussard said on his piece about the issue.
He said some users are hoping that Apple may address the issue by releasing a firmware update in the future; however, the company has yet to mention about any updates for the in-ear headphones.
Of course, people who have bought a pair of AirPods can always exchange them at an Apple retail store. But Broussard said it may take a while for some to get another pair if they exchange it because stocks are low.
A Mac Rumors forum member Lihp8270 tried this route, but it has proven to be troublesome.
"Their solution was to mail it to them, and wait 6 weeks for a replacement. Or I could phone the store myself every day and check to see if they had any new stock in to exchange it, as they couldn't take my details and let me know when an exchange set was available," he said.
Lihp8270 went on to say he bought another pair of AirPods, but it also has the same issues. Apple has to find a way to address this issue before it gets out of hand.
