'Ant-Man and the Wasp' release date, cast news, plot updates: Film to essentially be an origin story for the Wasp
The sequel to Peyton Reed's "Ant-Man" will feature the origin story the Wasp. "Ant-Man and the Wasp" is anticipated to show more of the duo's team dynamics.
"Ant-Man and the Wasp" is slated for a 2018 debut, and according to Evangeline Lilly, who plays Hop Van Dyne, also known as the Wasp, the sequel will focus on her character's origin story.
In an interview with Blastr at the 2016 New York Comic Con last October, Lilly shared that the script for "Ant-Man and the Wasp" is already underway and that it just needs approval from Marvel Studios.
"I haven't actually seen the script but I have talked to Peyton about where they're heading and what they want to focus on. I'm excited because it's essentially going to be the origin of the Wasp. Of course, we're going to see the Wasp for the first time take on the mantle, put on the suit, and fly about and do her thing," Lilly explained.
The "Real Steel" actress added that the Wasp will only appear in the second "Avengers" film following "Infinity War" because "Ant-Man and the Wasp" won't debut until 2018, and Marvel wants to give the Wasp a proper introduction before she fights alongside the Avengers.
Aside from the Wasp's origin story, Reed previously shared with Modern Myth Media that the dynamics between the Wasp and Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) will be another focus in "Ant-Man and the Wasp."
"I always thought of Ant-Man and Wasp as a team and that's a lot of what the second movie is really about is how they work together, what their personal and professional relationships are like," Reed explained.
He also added that he is excited to show the Wasp as a fully developed character. In "Ant-Man and the Wasp," the full potential of the Wasp's skills and abilities will be revealed, which will eventually build up her role when she comes in the "Avengers: Infinity War" sequel.
"Ant-Man and the Wasp" is set to premiere on July 6, 2018.
