HTC released its latest flagship the HTC One M9 in Barcelona, Spain, on March 1, but it definitely didn't mean that the company was sidelining its predecessor, the HTC One (M8). In fact the company has seen to it that the HTC One (M8) also gets the latest Android operating system, the 5.0 Lollipop. The latest carrier to get it was Verizon.

News that HTC One (M8) devices on Verizon would be receiving the update surfaced a few days ago on the carrier's website. In its announcement, Verizon also included detailed instructions on how to get the update running and the list of changes users should expect. The support page was subsequently updated to show that the update had begun rolling out over the air.

Gottabemobile said the update could arrive very soon or roll by the end of the week as over the air updates are usually sent out incrementally by Verizon. It added that users should not be concerned if they do not receive the update quickly as it could take around five to seven days for all the HTC One (M8) devices on Verizon to get it.

The Android 5.0 Lollipop update is already late in coming to HTC devices. The company acknowledged this in January this year when it stated that it would miss the 90-day self imposed deadline. Last month, the 5.0 Lollipop update was made available to Sprint and T-Mobile users in the United States. Owners of the device in Canada were lucky and got the 5.0 Lollipop update even earlier than their counterparts in the United States.

On the Verizon website, the company stated that as part of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update, HTC One (M8) will get a differently designed lock screen. In addition, the update will also bring better notification features, including a pull-down bar and multi-tasking features.

Verizon also noted that the update will include a number of security enhancements and brand-new effects and animations which will alter how the current Android version looks like. Layered on top of this update will be the HTC Sense 6 interface, which is the current version of the UI interface.
