Sony will likely roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Xperia Z3 series after it got certification from Wi-Fi Alliance.

According to Xperia Blog, Wi-Fi Alliance has released a certification for Xperia Z3 last Feb. 16, which signals that the roll-out will happen soon.

Sony announced last October that it is bringing the Android 5.0 to all its Xperia Z series smartphones.

"We'll be making Sony Mobile's Android L' upgrade available for the entire premium Z series including Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3v, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact," the company said in a statement.

It added that the upgrade for the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z2 series will begin this year.

Vodafone Australia announced last Feb. 5 that it "was awaiting software for testing" for Android 5.0 for the Xperia Z2 and Z3 series.

A Feb. 19 update on the Vodafone website indicated that it was still awaiting testing for the firmware.

According to Android Geeks, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will be rolled out in phases. "Meaning that some of you would have to wait longer than others before being able to download and install the new firmware," it said. "When your Xperia Z3 becomes eligible to receive the new update, you should be able to notice a system update message in the notifications bar," the online tech news source said.

Android 5.0 Lollipop has many new features including material design, vivid color themes, 3-D views, lock screen notifications and dynamic status bar.

The Sony Xperia Z3 has a 20.7 megapixel camera with auto focus, 4K video recording, 1080p for video chat and 2.2 megapixel for camera capture.

It has a 5.3 full HD display and Snapdragon 2.5 GHz Qualcomm Quadcore processor and 3GB RAM.
