The sixth season of "American Horror Story" has been a mystery for fans, and the showrunners are keeping it that way. The show has released a set of new promos that will keep the theme ambiguous. However, fans should rest assured that the true theme for the season is hinted in one of the promos.

According to ComicBook.com, the showrunners have been purposely keeping quiet about the next season's theme, and the promos have been a way to misdirect the audiences as to what season 6 will be about. Promotional images have merely teased the show with "?6."

When asked about the upcoming season of "American Horror Story," showrunner Ryan Murphy said, "We've been working on two ideas at once, which we've never done... Both ideas we're working with have elements of children," and that season 6 "will have a different form than we've ever done."

So far, the themes that the show has covered were based on a circus freak show, a haunted hotel, and a witch coven among others. Nonetheless, all the themes were announced and teased before the season premiered, and none have been as mysterious as the marketing for season 6. True, it could be a way to keep audiences on the edge of their seats, but it also looks like the showrunners are scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Nevertheless, the show has been a critical success over the years, and viewers can expect the showrunners to know what they're doing. With award-winners like Kathy Bates and Lady Gaga appearing on the show, viewers can expect that the production won't be anything less than stellar.

Though the theme is still a mystery, the release date of "American Horror Story" is not.

Season 6 is set to premiere on Sept. 14 at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
