'American Horror Story' Season 5 Cast News, Rumors: Jessica Lange Leaving as Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley and Cheyenne Jackson Join
The upcoming fifth season of "American Horror Story" will include at least three new cast members, namely Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley and Cheyenne Jackson. This was announced during the conclusion of the week-long PaleyFest on Sunday in Los Angeles.
However, as three new actors come in, one will leave. Long standing cast member Jessica Lange announced during the same gathering that she is leaving the show.
The hit FX show just wrapped up its fourth season which was titled "American Horror Story: Freak Show." It was based on the happenings in a freak show.
The upcoming season of the show will be titled "American Horror Story: Hotel" following the anthological format of the series which focuses on a different set of characters each season.
During the panel discussion in Sunday's PaleyFest, Lange said she "was done" with the show although she "absolutely loved doing the four characters, loved the writers, actors, the stories."
News of her departure came as a blow to many viewers. But her decision was not really unexpected since she had been hinting about it since the fourth season started.
As for Bentley's inclusion in the cast, it first surfaced via the Twitter account of show runner Ryan Murphy who welcomed him back. Bentley appeared in the last season and played the role of Edward Mordrake. Bomer is also a returning to the show after guest starring earlier.
As the name of the upcoming season indicates, action will be based in and around a hotel. Just like the show's other seasons, many cast members could be returning to play all new characters.
Last month it was announced that Grammy Award-winning singer Lady Gaga would be included in the cast as one of the main characters in the upcoming season.
