'Agents of SHIELD' season 4 news: 'Fear the Walking Dead' actor to play Ghost Rider's brother
Fans have known for awhile that the upcoming season of "Agents of SHIELD" will feature the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider (Gabriel Luna), but not much news about his brother Gabe is known — until now.
ComicBookMovie.com reports that the show finally casted someone to play Robbie's disabled brother, Gabe Reyes. The character will be played by "Fear the Walking Dead" actor Lorenzo James Henrie. Though Ghost Rider would be a major draw for fans of the comic, Gabe is the main reason why Robbie became the Spirit of Vengeance in the first place.
Robbie Reyes joined an illegal street race in order to earn some extra cash for his brother. This leads him to a fatal accident caused by mysterious gunmen. Although Robbie died, he was brought back to life as the new Ghost Rider.
For the series, the showrunners have decided to take some liberties with Robbie's origin story, but fans can expect that the relationship between the brothers will remain the same.
In an interview with TV Line, showrunner Jed Whedon had this to say about the show's version of Ghost Rider: "He's a violent character who comes with a lot of blood and a lot of fire... His skull will be on fire exactly as much as we can afford!"
Other than the presence of Ghost Rider, this season will have Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) back as an agent. He will be spending his time looking for more enhanced individuals aka Inhumans. Agent May (Ming-Na Wen) will be in charge of training the new strike team.
The first episode of season 4 will be titled "The Ghost" and is expected to introduce Robbie Reyes to the audience. Perhaps "The Ghost" is his street racing name?
The fourth season of "Agents of SHIELD" premieres on Tuesday, Sept. 20, at 10 p.m. EDT on ABC.
