'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' season 4 air date news, spoilers: Daisy Johnson a potential leader? AIDA rises to power

Will Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) eventually become the new director in ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”? | YouTube/ABC Television Network

After spending the first half of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." season 4 conflicted and on the run, is newly acknowledged hero Daisy Johnson (Chloe Bennet) finally on the path to fulfilling her comic book destiny? Executive producer Jed Whedon seems to think so.

"We've hinted at it a bit that Coulson thinks she can play more of a leadership role," Whedon told Entertainment Weekly in answer to a fan question regarding the matter. It is not in any way a definitive answer as Whedon also shared how it would all depend on the way Daisy's story plays out as the series progresses.

After everything that she has been through, and everything else that she's just about to go through, it may only be a matter of time before she turns from a conflicted rookie to the seasoned leader that Coulson seems to believe she could become. But will she really be able to step up to the plate on a moment's notice? Or will the responsibilities that the position entails drive her away again before it brings her back in with more conviction to lead and work with a team?

S.H.I.E.L.D. has had a long line of directors throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU ) run. With a new and potentially more dangerous threat arising in the second half of "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," will the organization soon be in need of a new leader, or will current S.H.I.E.L.D. director Jeffrey Mace (Jason O'Mara) step up and prove himself worthy of his team's trust?

The series has wrapped up the "Ghost Rider Arc" and is now all set to embark on a new storyline that may pit the S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives against one of their own.

In a more recent interview with TV Line, Whedon said, "We want everything to feel like its own mini world, and to have its own flavor." He further added that their goal for the second half of season 4 was to make viewers immediately feel that they're going to be seeing a different kind of story in 2017.

Will the S.H.I.E.L.D. be able to figure out the switch that the life model decoy (LMD) AIDA (Mallory Jansen) made on their weapons expert, Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen)? When did AIDA swap May out with an android much like her own, and what does she hope to accomplish by infiltrating the S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarters like this? Will Holden Radcliffe (John Hannah) catch on to his LMD's end game before it's too late?
