Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 release date, specs rumors: CES 2017 unveiling locked in as more leaks come in
The wait for the highly anticipated Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 will be over soon as the processor is planned for release at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) this January.
Qualcomm took to Twitter to tease the unveiling of the next-generation processor in Las Vegas, Nevada, saying that it will "come into focus" at the event.
One of the features of the Snapdragon 835 processor that Qualcomm takes pride in is the quick-charging technology. The company says that a device powered by its high-end processor can juice up to five hours' worth of battery life in just 15 minutes.
In addition to that, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor will make sure that it will still function to its best and will deliver consistent performance.
To make the processor more efficient, Qualcomm came up with Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), which allows the product to determine instantly the amount of power the device needs.
This allows the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor to tailor its performance to the smartphone while also making sure that it is using the full power the handset has to offer.
The processor will work hand in hand with the all new Adreno 540 graphics processing unit (GPU), which, on paper, is 30-percent more powerful and 40-percent more efficient than the current Adreno 530.
The reveal of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor at CES 2017 shows that many flagships will be able to employ it. In fact, there are already a lot of upcoming handset heavyweights lined up to use it.
Flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S8, Xiaomi Mi6 and the LG G6 are all expected to have the next-gen processor under the hood.
Prior to its much-awaited launch, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor was featured in a GeekBench benchmark leak.
Powering up a device called the Essential FIH-PM1 and clocked at 1.9GHz, the processor churned a score of 1844 points for the single-core test and 5426 points for the multi-score assessment.
This result is not as impressive as one would expect. Phone Arena says that it is significantly lower than the Kirin 960 chip's scores (1949 and 6439). The numbers it generated are already close to that of the Snapdragon 821.
However, it is believed that the test had its restrictions, which means that it does not tell the whole story of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor's performance.
CES 2017 will take place Jan. 5 to Jan. 8, 2017.
