When will Usain Bolt run? Rio Olympics 2016 100m, 200m schedule, dates & times
Jamaican sprinting champ Usain Bolt is definitely one of the attractions at the ongoing Rio Olympics 2016. The fastest man ever timed will compete in three events and intends to come out with a gold medal and an indissoluble legacy around his neck in each of them.
On Saturday, Aug. 14, Bolt will take part in the 4X100 m relay, where he sets his eyes for his third Olympic gold medal. The sprinting pride of Jamaica won in 2008 in Beijing and in 2012 in London.
The seventh-time Olympic gold medalist's next event will be the 200 m track and field. It is scheduled on Thursday, Aug. 16 and Bolt will once again aim for another world record.
He currently holds the world record of 19.32 seconds, but Bolt aims to finish the race under the 19 seconds at the Rio Olympics 2016.
"For some reason, when I get to the 200m, I'm always a little bit nervous. I always wanted to run sub-19. It's going to be hard, but you never know," Bolt said in a news conference in Rio via BBC.
The final Rio Olympics 2016 event he will compete in – the 100m track and field – will be on Thursday, Aug. 16. His world record for this category is 9.58 seconds and he hopes to do that again.
"I never try to predict times, because you never know what will happen. But for me the shape I'm in, I'll say I'm in much better shape, so I think 9.6 seconds definitely," Bolt told Reuters.
On video he posted on Twitter, Bolt encouraged fans to buy tickets and watch him "make history" in the Rio Olympics 2016, which will be his last Olympics.
Bolt will retire from athletics next year after the 2017 World Championships. He is intent on cementing his legacy and breaking his own world records to go out big.
That's one of the reasons I'm so excited. It's going to be a big goal for me," Bolt said in an exclusive Rio Olympics 2016 interview.
