NBA trade rumors: Will the Wizards put John Wall on the trading block?

Disgruntled players like Rudy Gay and Nerlens Noel are usually mentioned in trade rumors, but franchise cornerstones are rarely mentioned (unless it's DeMarcus Cousins). So, when USA Today's Larry Berger tweeted that the Wizards are interested in moving John Wall, a lot of eyebrows were raised.

If Washington ships Wall to another time team, the entire league will feel the impact of the move. Right now, Wall is averaging 23.7 points, 9.7 assists, 4.4 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 0.6 blocks per game. Those are huge numbers.

Wall has felt undervalued for the past few years now. He signed a five-year, $80 million contract extension back in 2013, but that figure now pales in comparison to what players of his calibre are getting. Despite being the franchise player for the Wizards, Wall is actually the second-highest paid player in the team after backcourt mate Bradley Beal signed a $130 million contract this past off-season.

Wall has been quite outspoken about the contract guard Reggie Jackson signed last year. When Jackson signed a five-year, $80 million contract extension with the Pistons, Wall couldn't believe Jackson was making the same money he is.

Well, the Wizards can always give Wall a max deal again once his contract is up, but he feels that he still won't get paid what he's worth because of the new collective bargaining agreement. The Washington Post has reported that Wall felt that he's going to be overlooked again because the proposed designated veteran rule only extends to players who have achieved all-NBA status or have won awards like league MVP and the like.

Wall's numbers may be great, but he plays for a losing team that is rarely shown on national TV. "All these other teams get a lot of TV games, that's why they get these accolades from the media and fan votes. Until we get an opportunity to be on TV more, it would be tough for people to realize and see what I do," he said.

The Wizards will try anything to keep their franchise star, but can they give him everything that he wants?
