Michael Phelps' fiancee and son update: Nicole Johnson cheers on gold medalist at Rio 2016
Michael Phelps is riding high on a cloud as he has won the gold medal in the 200-meter butterfly division last Tuesday. But people are saying, however, that he has won the true gold with his fiancée Nicole Johnson who was at the Rio Olympics cheering Phelps on along with his son Boomer.
USA Today reports that after the victory ceremony, Phelps walked up to the side of the pool to embrace Johnson and his mother. He then picked up his 3-month-old son Boomer and kissed him on each cheek for everyone in the crowd to see.
Johnson is no stranger to the spotlight as well. Back in 2010, she was USA's Miss California. The beauty queen has had an on-and-off relationship with Phelps since 2007, and though it has been a seriously rocky road for them, the pair got engaged back in February 2015.
In an interview with USA Today last year, Phelps was asked about his relationship with Johnson, and he said, "I never wanted to have a, 'What if?' I just told her exactly how I felt... I was like, as long as I can tell her that, I can go through my life and be happy. Whatever happens, happens. Obviously we worked through some things. There's nobody in the world I would rather be with."
No tentative date has been made for the marriage as of now, but Phelps and Johnson seem to be happy with the way their lives have been going. Their son, Boomer Robert, was born May of this year, and Johnson and the baby seem to have become constant fixtures in the lives of the Olympic gold medalist.
Phelps has officially won 20 gold medals throughout his entire Olympic career, and fans are wondering if baby Boomer will be next to follow in his father's footsteps — or rather, butterfly strokes.
