Jeremy Lin news 2016: NBA basketball star explains reason behind choosing Brooklyn Nets

Jeremy Lin is leaving the Charlotte Hornets for Brooklyn Nets, where he will play next season as a starter. The NBA star recently spoke about his decision with FOX Sports.

"I just want to try to be a leader. We've talked a lot about culture and establishing a type of identity and work ethic, and I just kind of want to help," Lin said.

"It's kind of like a blank slate for the organization in a lot of ways, bringing in a new GM and a new coach, and I just want to be a part of that," he explained further.

The Nets is the sixth team that Lin had in seven seasons. Prior to his decision to join the franchise, he expressed his desire to simply find a "home" where he can stay and play for a long time.

Lin signed with Nets on a three-year deal for $36 million. He explained that he chose the Nets because he was going to be the playmaker and the leader of the team, which is something he never got to experience and has long been wanting to do.

Meanwhile, on the side of the Nets, whose general manager Sean Marks and coach Kenny Atkinson are pleased to have Lin on the team, CEO Brett Yormark said that it also opened business opportunities.

"Those business opportunities are hopefully an expanded fan base in Brooklyn and beyond, and a driver of merchandise sales," Yormark told New York Post.

"That's certain. He was a top-20 seller last year in jersey sales, and given the interest Jeremy generates in China and that part of the world, our games will be televised there," he continued.

Yormark said that he will "take advantage" of Lin as he thinks he will boost sales on basically everything likes tickets and merchandise and even airings of the games in China, boosting "different business."
