Jeremy Lin injury update, latest news: still no timetable for Lin's return
Brooklyn Nets point guard Jeremy Lin hasn't played ever since he went down with a hamstring injury on Nov. 2, and right now, there is no timetable yet for his return. Earlier this week, Nets Coach Kenny Atkinson said Lin was "making strides" and it might only be a matter of time before he returns to practice.
Rookie Isaiah Whitehead and Sean Kilpatrick have been logging a lot of minutes since Lin has been out. Kilpatrick has been huge for the Nets in the past few games. The 6'4" combo guard managed to score 38 points and grab 14 rebounds in their come-from-behind win against the Clippers, but the losses are still piling up.
Right now, the team has the second-worst record in the East. Fortunately, the Philadelphia 76ers are not going to get better anytime soon. But the bottom line is: the Nets is going to need their starting point guard back sooner than later.
Meanwhile, Lin hasn't been slacking off while he recovers from the strained left hamstring. He has been carrying a clipboard lately whenever the Nets plays, and according to The New York Times, Lin has been charting a "self-styled version of offensive-efficiency statistics." Not bad for an economics graduate from Harvard. Coach Atkinson even has a name for it — Linology.
"It's beautiful. It's his way of showing he cares. He asked me if he could do it, and I said, 'Yeah, sure.' And he just does it, and he hands it to me after every game, and then I hand it to — you know, I'm not exactly sure where it goes," Atkinson said.
Well, the coaching staff better check his notes because the Nets has been horrible offensively. According to TeamRankings.com, the team is currently no. 22 in offensive efficiency. But that's not exactly a surprise since the team is missing its star point guard after all.
When will Lin come back? Right now, there's no clear timeline for his return, so Nets fans will have to cross their fingers and hope he gets well soon.
