Jeremy Lin trade news: Exits Charlotte Hornets for the Brooklyn Nets
Fans of Jeremy Lin will be cheering for him on a different team as the point guard now plays for Brooklyn Nets after departing with his last team, the Charlotte Hornets.
According to a report, the Nets signed Lin in hoping that he will be able to revive their roster. The team looked at Lin's past achievements while he was still playing for New York Knicks in 2012 wherein he was able to lead the team to an unexpected winning turnaround.
The win generated a global following known as "Linsanity". With his new team, Lin is hoping to repeat history and bring home the bacon for Hornets. Reports also detailed that the 27-year old basketball player signed a 3-year, $36 million contract with the team earlier in July.
Lin will be crossing paths again with the Nets' head coach Kenny Atkinson who worked as an assistant coach with the Knicks during Lin's time there. Apparently, Lin looked up to the man and has high regard to the coach prior to signing with his present team.
The California-born player is expected to be a big asset to the team as he is at his peak as a player, both physically and mentally. Turning 28 years old a few days from now, Lin is believed to be "entering his true athletic prime."
In other news, while Brooklyn Nets is glad to have Lin in the team, his former Hornets teammate Kemba Walker expressed mixed emotions concerning Lin's exit. Walker spoke with Charlotte Observer and said that he did not like Lin's decision of leaving the Hornets, but at the same time, he is happy that he grabbed the opportunity to be a starter.
"I hate to see him go, but at the same time, I'm definitely happy for him. He deserves to be a starter in this league. He's such a great player and he proved that last season. There were games where I was off and he carried the team," Walker said.
Reports said that Lin loved the Hornets. However, given the chance to be a starter, he could not pass up the Nets' offer. Lin's time with the Nets next season is predicted to come out as the best of his career. Although bringing back the "Linsanity" hype shouldn't be expected, he is still bound to create some buzz.
