Adrian Peterson Describes Himself As 'A+ Parent' In 2012 Interview
Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is receiving a new wave of criticism after it was revealed that he described himself as an "A+ parent" during a 2012 interview.
The NFL player has been indefinitely suspended for his team after being indicted in Texas for child abuse after he allegedly beat his four-year-old son with a switch, leaving marks on his legs, back and scrotum.
In the 2012 interview with Yahoo Sports, Peterson said he was an "A+ parent" when asked to grade his child-rearing skills. "I feel like I just have to teach [my kids] the ropes along the way and stay on them and really be disciplined. […] Not to the point where they're hating you when they're older, like my dad did and my mom did growing up," Peterson said.
"There were times I would look at them with the evil eye and was like 'I hate you,' 'You get on my nerves.' I never said that to them personally, but those thoughts went through my head."
As Peterson undergoes charges for child abuse, his future in the NFL remains unknown. Some have suggested that it would be more financially responsible for the Vikings to cut Peterson permanately, as currently the running back is still making his $11.75 million salary even though he is not playing for or practicing with the team.
The Vikings have previously announced that they are allowing Peterson's legal issues to take their course before making a decision on his NFL future. "After giving the situation additional thought, we have decided this is the appropriate course of action for the organization and for Adrian," team owners said in a statement earlier this month.
