CBS' rookie thriller drama "Zoo" is all set to premiere later this month, with wilder and crazier episodes as the team races the clock to take control of the mutated animals.

Season 2 kicks off with the animal apocalypse continuing to escalate as the mutation progresses to the next level. Jackson and the rest of the team will be shocked to find out a new type of mutation that endangers the life of one of them. The frenzied animals begin causing huge infrastructural damage and creating environmental phenomena which can be fatal to humans. Will the mutated animals completely render the planet uninhabitable?

Aside from saving the world, the team must rescue Jamie and the leopard believed to be carrying the key to finally end the widespread animal mutation. The official synopsis for the special two-hour premiere reads:

"The Day of the Beast" and "Caraquet"—Following the dramatic shift in violent animal behavior, the team attempts to rescue Jamie and the leopard whose DNA may hold the key to curing the animal crisis. Also, the team discovers a shocking mutation that threatens the life of one of their own.

The newly-released promo gives viewers an idea of how the upcoming season will play out. It shows the overall premise of the show, particularly the backstory on how the animals turned out to be that way. Most of the scenes are flashbacks, but the whole clip poses more questions than providing answers. What will be the second phase of the mutation? The teaser shows that it might be transferred to humans, and it remains to be seen how it will change an individual's behavior. Viewers can expect both humans and animals become "completely unhinged," CarterMatt notes.

Catch the two-part special premiere of "Zoo" season 2 which airs this coming June 28 at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
