'Zombie Vikings' release rumors: Indie game's Wii U launch cancelled; launch for other platform eyed?

The "Zombie Vikings" continue its adventures for PlayStation (PS) and Steam players, but unfortunately, they are staying in their graves as far as a Nintendo stint is concerned.

To those unfamiliar with the game, "Zombie Vikings" is the brainchild of Zoink Games, the same game developer that brought the hilarious, yet least-talked-about "Stick it to the Man" to life. "Zombie Vikings" is a one to four-player brawler that involves Vikings brought back from the dead by no less than Odin (of Norse mythology) on the premise that his eye was stolen, and he needs help getting it back, even if it meant a slew of out-of-this-world adventures and misadventures for the Vikings. It was originally developed for Steam and PS4 players.

Then, during the 2015 Gamescom, Nintendo announced through a "Nindies" sizzle reel that "Zombie Vikings" would be coming to Wii U along with a host of other up-and-coming indie games specifically developed for the platform. However, almost a year has passed since the news came out, and since then, both Nintendo and Zoink Games have been mum about "Zombie Vikings" for Wii U and its release date.

Dan Massi, writer and contributor for 8 World News, personally contacted Mikael Forslind, public relations and marketing manager of Zoink Games, to ask what gives. Apparently, "Zombie Vikings'" Wii U launch has been totally shelved because the game developer has its eyes set on other projects.

According to 8 World News, the indie developer would rather develop the game further, possibly so it would be perfect for the Nintendo NX platform, which Digitimes says is slated to enter mass production in early 2017. So there is a silver lining for Nintendo gamers, after all.

At any rate, "Zombie Vikings" is available on PS4 and Steam, as previously mentioned. A launch for Xbox One is expected soon, too.
