'You're the Worst' season 3 premiere date, spoilers news: 'Sunday Funday' to end; 'Orange is the New Black' star Samira Wiley, singer Ben Folds to guest star
FXX's acclaimed comedy "You're the Worst" returns for its third season later in August — further exploring the stories of its unique and damaged characters.
According to series creator Stephen Falk, season 3 will feature an episode titled "The Last Sunday Funday" which marks the end of a weekly tradition popularized by the show. "The characters realize that Sunday Funday has been co-opted by the general public, and now everyone's doing it," he explained to reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour. "There's signs advertising Sunday Funday mimosas and people wearing Sunday Funday shirts, as we have noticed in actual society... So we're embracing all of that and doing it, but doing it for the last time."
"You're the Worst" follows two emotionally damaged individuals who fall in love with each other. Season 2 centered on Gretchen (Aya Cash) as she continued dealing with clinical depression, along with an unexpected confession of love from Jimmy (Chris Geere).
Familiar faces on board as guest stars include "Orange is the New Black" actress Samira Wiley and singer-songwriter Ben Folds. When Gretchen finally decides to take the plunge and manage her issues, she meets Wiley's character who is a straightforward therapist. Since Gretchen is a music publicist by profession, she will cross paths with real-life musician Folds who will portray a "twisted" version of himself.
Aside from depression, the upcoming season will also explore themes of PTSD. In season 2, Edgar (Desmin Borges) learned more about himself and improv comedy led him to his girlfriend Dorothy. Season 3 will see Edgar's psychological issue in a different light, according to Borges. "This season is really all about taking ownership for who you are and how you want the next phase of your life to be," he hinted.
