Xiaomi smartwatch release date, price news 2016: Wearable device to arrive anytime this year?
Following the release of the Xiaomi Mi Band 2, a wearable fitness tracker, the company is said to be shifting its focus on the release of another wearable device, the Xiaomi smartwatch. According to the reports, the privately owned Chinese electronics company is gearing up for its debut before the year ends.

Gizmo China recently reported that Xiaomi is currently developing its first-ever smartwatch. The popular Chinese analyst Pan Jiutang said that the device will be released this year.
"The noted analyst, Pan Jiutang from China[,] reveals that the new smartwatch should be released by the company soon. He also says that the power consumption of the new Xiaomi smartwatch should be similar to Garmin's wearables," the publication wrote.
The company has had several smartphone releases in the past; however, despite its tenure in the tech industry, Xiaomi can be considered as a rookie in the smartwatch market. In 2015, there were rumors circulating all over the Internet that the company was going to develop a tech watch. It was speculated that it was going to launch the wearable device in November 2015; however, that did not materialize. Many fans are hoping that the company will finally roll it out this time around.
According to the report, the smartwatch will be available with a price tag of 1,599 Yuan or $243; However, Jiutang also said that the company may release a less powerful variant of the smartwatch, which could cost users 999 Yuan or $152.
In reports in April, Xiaomi has confirmed that a smartwatch is in development, along with the Mi Band 2. It was revealed by Liu De, the company's VP and co-founder, that they will launch the tech watch in the second half of the year.
If rumors prove to be true, this will certainly be a big year for Xiaomi as the company is on the path of releasing multiple devices this year.
