Xiaomi Mi 5C release date, news, rumored specs: toned-down variant of flagship Xiaomi Mi 5 may get unveiled on Dec. 12

Beijing-headquartered smartphone-manufacturing giant Xiaomi Inc. is so far the most successful story among its competition this year — and in Xiaomi's level, the feat couldn't be more difficult. The Chinese company has had its fair share of not-so-redeeming news at the start of 2016 as its shares have reportedly gone down a bit. But as a true-blue survivor of an enterprise, the company did not allow such a setback to back it down.
With its triumphant release of Xiaomi Mi Note 2, along with the shocker of the season Xiaomi Mi Mix, Xiaomi is now cemented as one of the few reliable guides in the industry that is currently keeping up with top competitors. And with the forthcoming Xiaomi Mi 6, the company's reigning status is set to expand in 2017.
But as this year is about to conclude, Xiaomi may still have some tricks up its sleeves. Rumors are circulating that the company may be gearing up to launch a refreshed device on Dec. 12 — to the tune of Xiaomi Mi 5C or Xiaomi Meri. A new variant of Xiaomi Mi 5, the imminent iteration is set to be launched in mainland China.
Furthermore, a recent Weibo leak has indicated that the upcoming entry won't be shying away from its parent device's winning specifications. Accordingly, the device will be powered by the firm's proprietary octa-core Pine Cone processor. The in-house chipset will be supported by a massive 3GB random-access memory (RAM).
In addition, Xiaomi Mi 5C will be encased in a 5.5-inch full high-definition (FHD) display with 1,080 x 1,920-pixel resolution and 403-pixel density. The forthcoming unit will also run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the company's MIUI 8 offering.
Slated to be launched next month, Xiaomi Mi 5C is tipped to be introduced in three color variants: Black, Gold and Rose Gold. It will have a price tag of around $217.
