The ninth installment of the highly successful "X-Men" film franchise will be released worldwide on May 26. Led by some of Hollywood's biggest artists like James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence, "X-Men Apocalypse" is expected to raise the bar further by having thought-provoking theme in a world filled with discriminated mutants. Just as the fans are about to witness the X-Men facing the most powerful villain in the series' universe, "X-Men" director Bryan Singer revealed a few details regarding the future of the franchise.

In the final trailer of "X-Men Apocalypse," a character with metal claws helped Cyclops (Tye Sheridan) and Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) in escaping from a military facility. This would be no other than Wolverine himself, and the particular scene in the trailer may have something to do with the "Weapon X" program.

Singer said in an interview via Yibada that the version of Wolverine that will be introduced in "X-Men Apocalypse" is different from the earlier versions of the character in the franchise. Also, he described the Weapon X program in the new movie as the "real" one. Therefore, the fans might be seeing a wilder, angrier and more animalistic version of Wolverine in the future "X-Men" movies, staying true to the origin of Wolverine's character in the comic book.

Hugh Jackman, who have reprised the role of Wolverine for a number of times already in the "X-Men" franchise, is set to wear the adamantium claws once more for "Wolverine 3." However, there are reports that Jackman will retire as Wolverine after the movie.

Meanwhile, speaking during an interview with Fandango, Singer gave the fans a glimpse of the future of "X-Men" movies. He teased that the next "X-Men" film may finally bring the mutants in an outer space adventure. There are grounds to take the "X-Men" world to an inter-galactic level because the "X-Men" comics have already tapped on the celestial entities such as the Phoenix force, "big aliens," and an "interstellar tenant." Also, Singer has immersed himself on the "X-Men" universe for years and given that he is also a fan of "space-bound" stories as featured in the "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" film franchise, it is about time to take the story to the galaxy.

"X-Men Apocalypse" will deal with En Saba Nur (also known as Apocalypse), the strongest villain who ever walked the face of the planet and who is now making his move to take away the world from humans. Further enhanced by alien technology, Apocalypse managed to live for thousands of years and as he awakens from a long period of slumber, he handpicks a group of four mutants as his followers which will be known as the "four horsemen."
