New members of the cast of "X-Men: Apocalypse" are gradually being introduced to the public as the latest film in the X-Men franchise is set to begin production in Montreal, Canada, ahead of its May 2016 release date.

Director Bryan Singer recently posted on his Instagram account an image of a mutant with wings placed inside a cage in what appears to be a circus. The image appeared to indicate the return to the X-franchise of Warren Worthington III, a.k.a. the Angel, who last appeared in the "X-Men: The Last Stand," where the character was played by Ben Foster.

This time around, the character may be played by another actor, possibly Ben Hardy who is reportedly in serious talks regarding a major role for "X-Men: Apocalypse."

Angel shares a history with the titular villain Apocalypse. In the comics, Angel asked Apocalypse to remove his mutant abilities. But instead of removing his mutant abilities, Apocalypse transformed him into an Archangel and one of his four horsemen.

However, this plot in the comics appears to be in conflict with the current movie storyline in the X-Men franchise. In the latest movie in the series, "X-Men: Days of Future Past," Angel was said to have died during a demonstration.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is set in the 1980s. The movie will see Professor X (James McAvoy), Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Beast (Nicholas Hoult) joining forces to deal with the threat posed by Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac).

Also appearing in the movie are the younger versions of Storm, Cyclops, Nightcrawler and Jean Grey, played by Alexandra Shipp, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Sophie Turner, respectively.

Also returning is "First Class" veteran Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert.

Last week, Singer revealed that Lana Condor will play the character Jubilation Lee, aka Jubilee.
